Since Thanksgiving is this week I want to talk about gratitude and the power in being thankful. When I first started practicing gratitude it seriously changed my perspective on everything. Practicing gratitude is consciously being aware of all of the great things that make up your life and being thankful for it. It is focusing on all of the good that we do have versus focusing on all of our lack.
We often take what we have in our lives for granted. Let’s try this, if you are reading this blog post odds are you are using some sort of smart device. To access our website you have a connection to the internet. Imagine if you didn’t have either one of those. Guess what, there are people who don’t have access to the internet nor a smart device. You have passage to this amazing thing! When was the last time you felt thankful and happy for having the privilege to have them?
Every good thing in your life was once something you did not have and most likely wanted. So, what if you don’t have a new car. At one point in time, you were begging the universe to have the vehicle you are currently driving. I’m asking you to take a step back and start admiring your life. Admire the stuff you like about yourself and start thanking the universe (or whatever higher power), that you are you.
Some people like to start their day every morning expressing gratitude. You can be thankful for the coffee you are drinking, the couch you are sitting on, anything no matter how big or how small. You can even go a step farther and make a list, a Gratitude List, of all of the things you love. Say things like “I am so happy and grateful I have time this morning to have coffee.” or “ I am so happy and grateful for my job.” or “I am so happy and grateful I have a family who loves me.” whatever you are feeling good about. You can even take it a step farther and all day say thank you when something great happens. Mindfully make an effort to express gratitude for all the good no matter how small.
The result of doing this practice is you will start to really, really like your life or if anything you will feel a lot better because you aren’t thinking about everything you lack. It forces you to see all of the great aspects of your life and of yourself. It will help you vibrate at a higher frequency and before you know it you will start attracting more good things into your life. So, today, right now, I want you to start reflecting on things, even write them down, start being thankful and watch how beautiful everything starts to become.
