Today I want to talk about being happy for all of the little things that we take for granted and how important it is to stop and be happy about them. In today’s society, we often focus on the bad and on everything we don’t have. We are in a perpetual loop of never feeling or being good enough. As soon as we get something we wanted, we feel like we need something else. We are barraged with messages that we are not rich enough, cool enough, smart, fat, or not pretty (which may I add, are not true). It feels like it is easier to complain about how we need more vs realizing and appreciating all that we have. Sure, things may not be perfect but when something good does happen, no matter how small, I challenge you to find some semblance of joy in it.
We often talk about gratitude and there is a very good reason why. When we practice gratitude or “happy for the little things” we are changing our thought processes and perspective on everything. We are shifting from focusing on lack and instead focusing on our abundance. So, when you focus on abundance (and I don’t mean just money) we are guiding the universe to a life that we want to live. Vibrate higher and focus on the good. Like attracts like, so if you are only concerned with doom and gloom and all of the things you do not have, how can you expect anything to work in your favor?
When you are happy about the little things it makes you realize how great your life really is. It makes you start to feel good. When you feel good about yourself you become limitless. Happiness isn’t something that is earned. It is not a place to be. You can be happy now. Things don’t have to be perfect in order for you to be happy. Hint, you are already perfect the way you are. You are already good enough. So start allowing yourself to be happy in this very moment. And how do we do this? Start feeling good about the little things.
This morning I had a cup of coffee. I was happy that I have coffee and the water to brew it. I was happy that I had time to actually sit and drink my coffee. I allowed myself to find joy in the smells and the way it tastes. This may sound silly but what if I didn’t have clean water to brew the coffee? What if I had forgotten to go to the store the day before to buy the grounds? What if the coffee I brewed tasted awful? What if I woke up too late and didn’t have time to sit in my PJs, cozy, enjoying the beverage? All of this is worth being happy for a cup of coffee in the morning, to me.
You can apply this technique to everything in your life. Nothing is granted. Nothing is a given no matter how much it may seem like it is. Just the fact that you are here and alive every day is a fucking miracle. Start looking at the world this way in silent amazement. Start speaking gratitude and feeling good for the things that make up your life. When something good happens allow yourself to find joy. You deserve happiness and all things good. Believe this. Find this and allow yourself to feel awesome about yourself today.
