Quote of the Week

Today we wanted to share a very inspiring quote to help lift our readers!

“There is no force equal to a woman determined to rise” – WEB Du Bois

When I first read this quote it was leading up the 2018 Women’s March. I instantly thought “Yes, this is it!” Arlene and I are very passionate about Girl Power. Girls can do anything and we feel it is important to stand alongside other woman joining our voices in the loud cries for equality. Though, the Women’s March is more than just women’s rights. It is women taking a stand for all types of issues that harm unity, prosperity, and peace for many, many people. After researching deeper into this quote, it is kinda what this quote represents.

For those who do not know who WEB Du Bois is, in short, he is a prominent sociologist and civil rights, activist. Originally this quote was presented in 1910 in an essay titled “The Economic Aspects of Race Prejudice”.

The original quote was :

And when a group, a nation or a world assumes this attitude, it is handling dynamite. There is in this world no such force as the force of a man determined to rise. The human soul cannot be permanently chained.

Flash forward to 1994, these words were recalled in The Orlando Sentinel but this time as:

There is in this world no such force as the force of a man determined to rise. The human soul cannot be permanently chained.

In 2006 the quoted appeared as:

There is in this world no such force as the force of a person determined to rise. The human soul cannot be permanently chained.

AND Now in 2018 the quote seems to have evolved again to :

There is no force equal to a woman determined to rise.

Despite the fact that this quote has been modified over the years, we still feel that it is important to credit the original author. The tone is still the same. The idea that in light of oppression the oppressed will always rise. A man can rise, a person can rise, women will rise. And as WEB Du Bois originally ended the quote, “The human soul cannot be permanently chained”.
